Buchanan is Black and Gold

Manager Stuart Malcolm has today moved to add experienced striker Liam Buchanan, with the hitman joining the ‘Gers on a one-year deal.

The forward was with Cowdenbeath last season where he netted on 11 occasions over the course of the season before falling out of favour somewhat upon the arrival of Maurice Ross. A proven goalscorer, Liam has a mammoth 190 SPFL goals to his name, and 233 across all competitions.

The 37 year-old has a wealth of senior league experience having also played with Partick Thistle, Dunfermline, Ayr United, East Fife, Alloa Athletic, Livingston and Raith Rovers during his career. Liam also had a short spell with Sligo Rovers over in Ireland, and his time at Shielfield Park will be his first experience of the Lowland League.

On his latest addition, boss Malcolm said: “Liam is an unbelievable signing for the club. He’s a real professional with a know-how that he’s gained throughout all the games in his career. He has leadership qualities, he’s vastly experienced and he obviously brings a real technical ability to the squad.

“His goal record over the course of his whole career is outstanding. Wherever he’s played and whatever level he’s played at, he’s always been in amongst the goals.

“Like with Steven Anderson, Jamie Stevenson, Calum Antell, this is an addition that adds to the spine of the team. Again, there are real leadership abilities in there and an ability to bring other younger players on within the squad.

“We’re delighted we’ve got Liam. We’ve fought off a number of clubs to secure his services for the coming season. As a manager and a coaching team we’re ecstatic we’ve added another experienced player that we’ve really been trying hard to find over the course of the close season.

“It’s been good business so far with Steven, Jamie, Calum and Liam joining, so very positive. I’m looking forward to the games and I hope to see everybody there.”

All at the club would like to share a very warm welcome to Liam and look forward to seeing him in action. Supporters might get the chance to see Liam as soon as this Saturday, when we host Stenhousemuir in our first pre-season friendly. Please note this match will kick-off at 2pm.
