Broxburn vs BRFC 25-26 Match Report

An “out of sorts” Berwick were blown away by a rampant Broxburn at sunny Albyn Park.

Braces from Errol Douglas and Shaun Brown and a Jamie Pyper own goal consigned Berwick to the heaviest defeat of the Kevin Haynes era.

Berwick had been second best throughout the first half and fell behind when Pyper headed past Callum Antell before Brown beat the offside trap on the stroke of half time and slotted past the Berwick keeper.

Struan Mair fired right at Mikey Andrews in the Broxburn goal before Alfie Robinson hit the post but any faint hopes of a comeback were extinguished by Brown’s second and Douglas’ late brace.

“We just never matched Broxburn”

“Disjointed”. “Out of sorts”. “All over the place”.

The verdict from Kevin Haynes wasn’t entirely surprising on an afternoon when Berwick seemed to be second best to absolutely everything. Broxburn seemed to be sharper, quicker and stronger than Berwick and the scoreline, in the end, was reflective of the gulf in performance at Albyn Park.

Many fans and the manager would have been shocked at just how poor this Berwick performance was after the opening two games of the season had produced two determined, strong performances.

As the manager himself put it, “Did I expect us to capitulate like we did today? No, I didn’t”.

Wright debuts

The one positive for Berwick fans is that they were able to get a cameo from new signing Harry Wright on the right wing.

While it was difficult for the Stirling Albion loanee to have any meaningful effect on the game, he showed a willingness to drive at his full back on the rare occasion he got the chance and could be another dimension going forward for Berwick.
