Brian Porteous to step down

Brian Porteous is to step down from his role as chairman and director of Berwick Rangers Football Club at the end of the current season (May 2016), a position he has held for seven years (and as a director for 11).

Mr Porteous told the club’s official website www.berwickrangers.com today:

Brian has been a director at Shielfield for 11 years.

Brian has been a director at Shielfield for 11 years.

“This has been a tough decision for me, and one I have taken a lot of time over as Berwick Rangers has been a pivotal part of my life this past decade.

“However, I feel the timing is now right to make the announcement, and it gives my fellow directors time to move forward, look at my position and replace me.

“Nothing would please me more if by the time I stand down the team would have been promoted to League One, either as champions or by the play-offs.

“A lot of factors have contributed to my decision. My health has not been 100% of late, my business and family life has often been put on the back burner due to football and I have been, and still will be, travelling abroad a fair amount in the coming year and further ahead.”

Brian Porteous took stewardship of the PLC at a time when financially the club and company was not in a healthy position.

However, under astute leadership, AGMs over the past few years have played witness to numerous healthy and profitable balance sheets and, as far as Mr Porteous is concerned, the icing on the cake would be promotion for the team in May.
