Brian Martin to hunt down his teammates

Defender Brian Martin has revealed that he’ll be chapping the door of his Berwick teammates today to demand a share of their win bonus in a bid to pay off the fine for his red card after his wondersave helped to deny Stirling Albion a share of the spoils at Shielfield.

“The ball has came in from the corner and the boy has headed it goalwards, and I just wasn’t getting to it. I thought it was gonna drop in so I sort of jumped and punched it off the line, sort of took one for the team and luckily enough for myself they miss the penalty so I go from the villain to the hero a wee bit!”

And the defender joked: “It’s a win bonus as well for the team so I’m gonna go around the boys tomorrow and get at least a tenner each off them!”

But despite the win and delight at the rub of the green the ‘Gers encountered post match, it was clear that the squad echo their manager’s thoughts that there is room for improvement despite recording four consecutive clean sheets for the first time since 2013.

“In the first ten or fifteen minutes we could have scored three or four goals. We were creating great chances and were well on top.”

And despite only being introduced to senior football in January, the experienced former Musselburgh man is already drawing his conclusions on what it takes to be successful at this level.

“I think you’ve got to score when you get your chances in this league. We made it hard for ourselves and going into the second-half I think it’d switched and they were on top.

“I thought we were poor today. I’d say 90% of the boys were poor today, or not up to scratch. That’s just not good enough.

“But we still won though, and that’s the main thing – getting the three points!”

Despite his own goalkeeping heroics, the imposing centre-half also praises his goalkeeper for some impressive saves in the interview.

The club also launched their official Periscope account yesterday (OfficialBRFC) and broadcast the interview with Bria Martin LIVE immediately following the match.
