Brechin 4-3 Berwick Match Report 8/8

Berwick conceded a 90th minute goal to end up on the wrong end of a chaotic seven goal thriller at Brechin.

Headers from Callum Mackay and Josh O’Connor had Berwick two up within half an hour at Glebe Park but Fraser MacLeod’s low finish five minutes before the break gave the hosts hope.

Kieran Moyles would trip Mitch Taylor just after the hour mark to allow Dale Hilson to dispatch a penalty for the equaliser.

Injuries would eventually catch up to Berwick, with Mark McConnell limping off with 15 minutes to go to reduce them to 10 men but Ben McCrystal’s brilliant work teed up Kyle Somers to give Berwick the lead.

MacLeod’s volley dribbled through bodies and Callum Antell to bring Brechin level again before Taylor found space to fire beyond Antell right at the death to consign Berwick to a heartbreaking defeat.

Injury bug keeps biting Berwick

For the second consecutive game, Berwick ended a game a man down after someone had to limp off. Yet, somehow at Glebe Park, it felt never ending.

Of Berwick’s five substitutions, all bar one were injury or injury prevention related.

Three players who came off were centre backs.

Much has been made of this squad’s character in the last 18 months or so and there are few bigger tests of that than dragging wounded and weary bodies through game after game like Berwick are.
