Bo’ness United vs BRFC Match Report 25-26

A brilliant second half performance saw Berwick pick up a big 3-1 win at Bo’ness United.
Kevin Haynes’ side had to defend resolutely for the entire first half before Taylor Hendry headed the ‘Gers into the lead on the stroke of half time.
Berwick came out strong after the break and doubled their lead through a Ben McCrystal header on the hour mark.
The hosts threatened a comeback when substitute Kyle Johnstone rifled home from close range but Berwick wrapped up all three points when Greg Binnie bulldozed his way through with two minutes to go.
Sensational Sparky
In a performance filled with standouts, Mark McConnell’s performance at Newtown Park was nothing short of outstanding.
As Kevin Haynes said post-match, there can’t be any doubt that McConnell was the best player on the pitch when it, at times, seemed like he was single handedly keeping Bo’ness at bay.
Goals Are In The Air
One of the key areas of improvement from 2024/25 was goalscoring and it’s fair to say that has improved this season.
Liam Buchanan might be top scorer with 7 league goals but the likes of Mbewe, Binnie and Hendry are all chipping in while it was encouraging to see Ben McCrystal back amongst the goals.
On another day, Berwick could have four or five from that second half performance but there is plenty of firepower in this squad.
Up next
It’s a short week for Berwick with a Tuesday night trip to Christie Gillies Park to take on Civil Service Strollers.
