Berwick’s new signing taking it to the Max!

Berwick Rangers have added promising young right-back Max McGinley to their squad for the 2024/25 season, on the eve of their Park’s Motor Group Lowland League opener against Linlithgow.

The 19 year-old impressed ‘Gers boss Thomas Scobbie in training, and then as a trialist in last weekend’s friendly match against Morpeth Town (where he wore the number 2 shirt). McGinley began at Penicuik Athletic, before being signed by Falkirk. Last season, he gained Lowland League experience on loan at Edinburgh University, where he was a regular starter. Now, the young defender has become the latest recruit for the ‘Gers and Scobbie – who had to fight off a number of other clubs to land the deal, according to the manager.

Speaking after McGinley put pen to paper on a 2-year deal, the Scobbie said, After talking to Max, it became clear that he felt Berwick was the right place for him to learn and progress as a player, and so we’re really pleased to have signed him up. He is comfortable playing both left and right full back, and I believe he is a kid with a bright future. He is technically very good and for a lad his age his positional sense on the pitch is excellent.’

These qualities were all on display in accomplished display against a strong Morpeth side last week, and Berwick fans will be hoping McGinley can continue his form on Saturday, when Linlithgow Rose visit Shielfield.

Sponsorship for Max McGinley will be on sale online in the very near future, priced at £100 for home or away kit sponsorship, and £50 for training or travel kit sponsorship.
