Andrew Irving joins the ‘Gers

Berwick Rangers are delighted to confirm the addition of young Hearts midfielder Andrew Irving on a development transfer for the new season.

Irving becomes manager John Coughlin’s 3rd new addition this summer, and his 2nd loan signing.

The deal will see the midfielder, who is a regular in the Jambo’s Under 20 team despite only having turned 17 in May, pick up more regular experience of senior football.

It won’t be Andrew’s first taste of senior football having played a part in the Hearts Under 20 team which dispatched of League Two rivals Stirling Albion last August in IRN BRU Cup action. He also featured in their game against Elgin City, though the youth side would lose 2-0 at Borough Briggs on that occasion.

Irving is highly rated by staff at Tynecastle Stadium, where he made his Under 20 debut at the tender age of 14 years old, and played an important part in the side that managed a mid-table Development League finish last season.

And the youngster, who has also featured further up the park during his development as a player, also has some experience within international youth development, having been a part of Scot Gemmill’s Scotland Under 17 squad as recently as February.

The club would like to extend a warm welcome to Andrew and look forward to seeing him in action at Shielfield Park.
