O’Kane joins ‘Gers
Midfielder Declan O’Kane has today become manager Robbie Horn’s first signing for the club, joining from Musselburgh Athletic for an undisclosed fee.
The 22 year-old played youth football with Heart of Midlothian before joining Dunfermline Under 17s in 2012. O’Kane played his way up the ranks at Dunfermline, featuring regularly for their Under 20 side as well as having a short loan spell with League Two Montrose.
In 2015 he made the short move to neighbours East Fife, making 19 appearances during their title winning campaign. From there he joined Junior side Musselburgh Athletic, scoring two goals and providing six assists.
Manager Robbie Horn is delighted to have secured the player, admitting he’s had his eye on him for a while: “I’ve tried to sign Declan twice before. Once when he left East Fife and then again in the summer whilst at Musselburgh. He can play a number of positions, is comfortable on the ball but what I really like about him is his fantastic attitude to the game. He’s got good energy levels, a bit dig about him and most importantly he’s a winner”.
Discussing his move, O’Kane shared his excitement to join up with Horn’s squad: “I’m delighted to be signing for Berwick Rangers. I’ve been choking to get back into Senior football and I’m really looking forward to getting started.”
