Match Preview : Berwick Rangers v Elgin City – Ladbrokes League Two
Berwick Rangers welcome Elgin City this Saturday for a League Two clash, kicking off at 3pm at Shielfield Park.
This will be Robbie Horn’s home league debut as manager since his appointment last month. Horn and his management team will also be at Shielfield this evening, as the club host a talk in event with the trio.
Horn and his team will be determined to gain a result against a side that inflicted more pain than anyone else in the division on the ‘Gers last season. Berwick failed to beat Elgin in the league with three defeats and a draw, including the highest defeat of last season.
This season Elgin, under the stewardship of James Weir, have been a bit of an inconsistent entity and currently sit in the middle of the table with 2 wins/2 defeats from their opening 5 matches.
Berwick Rangers Team News:
Robbie will be looking for his first points as manager, having felt aggrieved to not pick anything up from the visit to Edinburgh City last weekend. The manager has commented that this weekend is all about putting some points on the board and restoring some belief to the side.
Darren Lavery and Chris McDonald will miss the game through injury. Berwick also have a couple of other players nursing knocks who will be assessed prior to kick off.
Greg Rutherford and Jonny Fairbairn will be pushing for inclusion having played for the under 20 squad in their 3-1 victory in mid-week.
Elgin City Team News:
Manager James Weir will be looking for some consistency from his Borough Briggs side as both prior away league games this season have culminated in a 0-3 victory and a 3-0 defeat.
The Black and Whites will also, like Berwick, be looking to bounce back from a one nil reverse last weekend, due to a disputed penalty against Annan Athletic.
Match Odds:
League sponsors Ladbrokes have this game forecast as follows:
Berwick Rangers 13/8
Draw 12/5
Elgin 11/8
Match Admission:
The gate will be the usual price for home league games in 2017/18 with adults charged at £12 with concessions gaining entry for £7.
However, we hope to welcome many new faces to Shielfield Park on Saturday as this game is part of the free ticket initiative mentioned last month. Regular supporters were encouraged to obtain an additional complimentary ticket at the home game against Annan Athletic in the hope that they would bring a new face to this game or a returning supporter back to Shielfield Park.
The tickets have been dispatched and we are also delighted to confirm that some players/officials will be handing out additional ones on Berwick High Street on Saturday morning.
If any supporters want to know more about this please feel free to contact the club.
Match Officials:
The referee for the game will be David Dickinson. John McCrossan and Daniel Graves will be David’s assistants on the day.
Fans of both the home and away clubs are invited to enjoy the hospitality of BRFC TV sponsors, The Red Lion, located a three minute walk from Berwick-Upon-Tweed railway station prior to and following the match. Any supporters will be treated to complimentary food when purchasing a drink.
We really hope that people use the free ticket initiative for the weekend and that we see plenty of new faces coming through the gates.
Hopefully a bumper crowd can roar the team onto a first victory for our new managerial team. We would encourage any first time attendees to visit the new look club shop where discounted season tickets are also available. We hope this will be your first of many visits to our home.
Enjoy the game.
