Valueable point (but it could have been three)
Berwick had faced two tough away games in consecutive weeks at Forfar and Elgin (having lost at both early season) so Manager John Coughlin will be pleased to have taken four points from the trips, winning at Forfar and drawing 2-2 at Elgin, this after leading 2-0.
It is always a tough trip to Borough Briggs but Aaron Murrell came close early on rounding the home keeper but seeing his effort blocked. Elgin had chances too but Sean Brennan was again to defy them. Skipper Pat Scullion went off injured midway through the opening half (replaced by Jonny Fairbairn) and left back Kevin McKinlay was to go off as well, replaced by new St Johnstone loan signing Greg Page.
Berwick though were to silence the home crowd with two goals in as many minutes on 41 and 42 both from crosses by David Verlaque. Greg Rutherford keeping up his purple patch with a header and Aaron Murrell turning well to slot in number two. Sadly Tom O’Reilly was to net a 25 yard free kick soon after to make it 2-1 at half time.
In the second period, Berwick missed a great opportunity to go 3-1, when Michael McKenna was foiled one on one with the keeper only for Elgin to be awarded a disputed hand ball penalty decision 8 mins from time, Brian Cameron seeing his spot kick just evading the dive of Sean Brennan.
