Sheerin: “I’m Relishing The Challenge!”
Striker Jordyn Sheerin has revealed that he’s relishing the challenge of League Two football after opting to leave Livingston in search of more regular first-team football.
“I’m delighted to have joined the club. I met up with the gaffer a couple of times before signing to find out his plans for the season. Everything he had to say was fantastic, it’s clear this is a club that’s on the up.
“As someone coming down from playing in the Championship, you ideally want to try go and win things, and that’s something that John convinced me Berwick as a club can manage to do.”
Having left Livingston in the middle of a two-year deal, it’s clear that the opportunity to feature more regularly is another factor in Jordyn’s decision to join the ‘Gers as he continues:
“I wasn’t really playing much at Livingston. I’d often get on the park from the bench, but I’m at the age now where I want to be playing and showcasing my ability.
“I respect that every boss has different thoughts on players, and having spoken to the management at Livingston I wasn’t really convinced that things may change for me there this season.
“So with that in mind I opted to consider my options and met up with a couple of teams, but as soon as I spoke to John I knew that’s who I wanted to play for. His enthusiasm, style of play and aims for the season completely align with my own.
“I’ve played under him at East Stirlingshire so I’m familiar with how he works. I rate him highly as a manager, so I’m really looking forward to working under his tutelage again.”
And despite a change of scenery, the powerful forward also revealed that there will be some element of familiarity as he’s good friends with a lot of the current squad.
“During my time at Musselburgh I played with the likes of Graeme Beveridge, Robert Wilson and Brian Martin and I also know a couple of the other boys like Darren Lavery and Jonny Fairbairn, so I’m aware of quite a lot of the team already and hopefully that’ll serve us well going forward.”
Jordyn’s time at Musselburgh was most notable for his incredible record of netting 42 goals in 37 games, and the Edinburgh-based striker hopes a move to Berwick may be just what he needs to recapture his scoring form.
“I know that was an incredible season and a year like that may never happen again for me, but I’m certainly looking to try return to more regular goalscoring form with increased match-time.
“I have personal targets that I feel I need to hit, and I am confident I can get back amongst the goals, but I’m not complacent.
“I felt in the time I did have in the Championship that I caused problems for sides, so I can take belief from that. But equally I’m sure there’ll be a step-up in quality between the two levels (Junior and Senior), so I know that whether things are going my way or not, I’ll always have to be give 100%.”
Sheerin also admitted he believes he’s transformed as a player since his last stint in League Two.
“I do have some experience of this level, too having played with the Shire, East Fife and Arbroath, and I do have fond memories of it. East Fife gave me a chance at 17 which was great, and even though injury only meant I played a part in 16-17 games, we managed to win the league at Arbroath.
“But I feel I’m a much different player from back then. Some players take a little longer to develop and I believe that’s been the case with me.
“If you were to look back to my time playing with those teams and compare it to my playing style now, I don’t think you’d really recognise me.
“So with that in mind I’m looking forward to the season getting underway. I’m really relishing the challenge and I hope that I can show people what I can do!”
