Blair Henderson has admitted in BRFC TV’s latest interview that the whole squad are enjoying the pressure being placed on them by manager John Coughlin to perform consistently.
“The new manager definitely changes things a bit more and keeps things fresh, so everyone knows that they have to play well or they’ll be out the team.
“I think that’s really helped to bring a better atmosphere within the changing room – you know there are no favourites.”
Coughlin’s commitment to keeping things fresh and confidence in his squad can be demonstrated by the rest he gave the forward on Saturday at Queen’s Park despite Henderson’s winner against Montrose in our last home game.
But the rest certainly didn’t halt Blair’s momentum as he picked up a brace on Tuesday, and though Berwick’s current top scorer admitted there was an element of luck in the way both goals came around, he also stated his belief that the luck the ‘Gers are experiencing is as a result of the confidence flowing through the side at the minute.
“The first goal I thought Sandy should have maybe played me through first time anyway, but his shot broke to me, I’ve hit it hard and it’s bounced up into the top corner.
“The second is similar, Finn has gone in for a tackle and it’s broke to me, I’ve took a touch around the goalie and I’ve managed to squeeze it in.
“Five or six weeks back I don’t think things like that were happening, but we’re getting the luck now, and I think it’s a result of the confidence that we have now.”
And despite a winning brace, the youngster also admitted that he felt himself and his strike partner Darren Lavery might have widened the gap even further.
“Darren’s netted a good goal, and maybe could have scored in the final minute. I probably could have done better and took a couple of chances to get my hat-trick too.
“In a selfish way I’m a bit gutted not to get a third but it’s the three points that matter most!”
