Steven Notman set for milestone appearance
If Steven Notman features in the Scottish League Two clash against Annan Athletic on Tuesday night, it’ll mark his 200th league appearance for the club.
The 29-year-old midfielder ranks 17th in terms of all-time appearances for the ‘Gers, playing 234 times in all competitions and in behind the likes of fellow 2006/07 title-winning teammates Gary O’Connor (289) and Grant McNicoll (295).
After that successful loan spell from parent club Hibs, Notman signed on the dotted line permanently at the beginning of the 2009/10 season and has remained at the ‘Gers since, where he has been a pivotal part of first-team squads over the years with manager John Coughlin delighted to still have Notman at his disposal when he returned to the club.
Speaking back in November, Coughlin said: “The one remaining character from the league-winning team, Stevie Notman, has all the resilience you’re ever going to need. I’m absolutely delighted that he’s still at the football club.”
And that has shown with Notman only missing one game under Coughlin, the 2-2 home draw against East Stirlingshire, through suspension. After a spell on the sidelines at the start of the season, Notman has featured 18 times in total, starting 16 and coming off the bench twice.
