Statement from Club Chair, Brian Porteous
I know the Manager, Colin Cameron and I have come into a lot of criticism recently, after a season that saw Berwick Rangers reach the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup for the first time in 35 years but under achieved in the league.
We all felt that at the start of last season that we had the squad of players to challenge for the league but unfortunately we fell short.
I can assure you all that the Manager, Colin Cameron, is working hard at present meeting players and their agents and trying to sign players for the forthcoming season.
I have heard many rumours recently about myself giving the Manager another year’s contract without consulting the rest of the board members and Colin Cameron putting himself forward for the Raith Rovers job, both of which are not true.
It was discussed at a board meeting in January 2015 to give the Manager another year’s contract and when I heard the rumour about the Raith job I asked Colin Cameron outright, to which he said it was the first he had heard of it.
We discussed the Manager’s position at a recent board meeting and we gave the him our full backing, but Colin knows that a repeat of last season’s form is unacceptable.
On a more positive note I can confirm that Neil Oliver and Myles Allan have be appointed as co-managers to run the under 20’s side playing again within the SPFL league. Neil is hoping to attract top level local players.
As I have stated previously, player’s will come and go, Manager’s will come and go, Chairmen and Directors will come and go but there will always be a Club, our Club, Berwick Rangers F.C.
I would like to hold a Manager and Chairman’s talk in prior to one of our pre-season home friendlies for all members of the Supporters Club and Supporters Trust. The date will be confirmed once all the friendlies are arranged.
I appeal to all our supporters to get behind the Manager and team right from the start of the season and hopefully the results will come.
Best regards, Brian Porteous (Chairman BRFC)
