Lewis Barr returns to Berwick Rangers

Lewis Barr returns to Berwick Rangers

We are thrilled to announce that Lewis Barr has completed a return to MKM Shielfield Park.

The midfielder, now 32, enjoyed 7 seasons at the ‘Gers from 2018/9 to 2024/5 – making 123 total appearances and scoring 14 goals. In that time, Lewis won numerous end of season awards and quickly established himself as a fans’ favourite with his energy, effort and commitment to the club. Lewis announced his retirement from football before the start of the 2025/6 campaign, but has reversed that decision to rejoin the club, initially until the end of the current campaign.

Speaking about his return, Lewis said, ‘I’m absolutely delighted to be back. I had 7 wonderful seasons at Berwick, made so many friends and had some great times as well. My decision to retire was purely down to personal reasons, but life can change quickly and I’ve been looking for the right opportunity to get back to football for a while now. When the club approached me, I just thought that there is nowhere I’d rather play than Berwick Rangers.’

Lewis continued, ‘I’ve been back in training, and absolutely loving it. It’s been great seeing some of the boys that I played with before, as well as meeting the newer guys. I know it might take me a little while to get fully up to speed, but training has felt great and I’m just looking forward to getting going again. I hope we can have a successful season, and I just can’t wait to be back in a black and gold shirt.’

Berwick manager Martin Scott also added further insight into how Lewis came to return, ‘Following discussions with the chairman and an assessment of the squad during our first four training sessions and opening matches, Lewis Barr emerged as a strategic signing who we believe can make a real difference to the group. Lewis knows the club, understands what it means to represent Berwick Rangers, and is a Berwick man through and through.’

Scott added, ‘We put a plan in place to invite him back into training, and the conversations with Lewis have gone extremely well. We’re delighted to welcome him back to the club. Lewis brings a wealth of experience, physicality, maturity and quality in his all-round play. We believe his presence will strengthen the squad, contribute positively to the team dynamics and add valuable experience to the dressing room. He will be a real asset to Berwick Rangers Football Club.’

The manager concluded by saying, ‘We’re delighted to have Lewis back on board and look forward to seeing the impact he can make, both on and off the pitch.’ – a sentiment that will certainly be shared by ‘Gers fans.

Lewis will be available to sponsor on the club webstore very soon, and is available for the final game in the KDM Evolution Trophy league phase, against Queen of the South at MKM Shielfield Park on Tuesday night.

Welcome back Lewis Barr!
