Josh O’Connor signs!

We are delighted to announce that 22 year old forward Josh O’Connor has become the newest member of the Berwick Rangers squad, as the former Hibernian and Airdrieonians attacker signs at MKM Shielfield Park on a 1 year deal.

Josh – the son of former Hibernian, Birmingham City and Scotland striker Garry O’Connor – made his first team debut for the Hibees in a memorable 6-0 win over Aberdeen in 2022. In 2024, Josh helped Airdrieonians to lift the Challenge Cup while on loan at the then-Championship club. Spells at Dundalk and Crusaders over the Irish Sea then followed, before Josh returned to Scotland with Elgin City. Despite his young age, O’Connor joins Berwick with experience at higher levels, and will be looking to use that to make an impact in black and gold.

‘Gers manager Kevin Haynes was thrilled to secure Josh’s signing. Josh is a player with plenty of development ahead of him, and he has attributes that will fit the team really well. He has great movement and football IQ, and uses this to identify spaces on the pitch where he can hurt teams in the attacking third. Throughout our conversations, it became clear that he shares the same hunger and ambition that we want throughout our dressing room. He wants to work hard, improve and make a real contribution to this football club.’

Haynes continued, ‘Of course, settling into a new club takes time, but I’m confident our players, staff and supporters will make Josh feel welcome from day one. The backing this club receives is second to none – I’m sure Josh will quickly see what makes Shielfield so special.’

Josh O’Connor will be part of the ‘Gers squad for tomorrow’s friendly at home to Blyth Spartans, in a 3pm kick off at MKM Shielfield Park. He joins fellow new signings Owen Hayward and Ryan Turner as players in line to make their Berwick debut in preseason. As revealed this week, the ‘Gers’ Lowland League East campaign starts with an away trip to Lochee United on Saturday 25 July. His signing is pending Scottish FA approval.
