Welcome Banji Koya!

Welcome Banji Koya!

We are delighted to announce that UEFA A Licensed coach Banji Koya has joined the backroom staff of Berwick Rangers ahead of the new season!

Koya arrives at MKM Shielfield Park with a reputation that speaks for itself. Best known for his time in charge at Heriot-Watt University, he has earned recognition for his tactical understanding and modern approach to coaching, and also for his ability to bring the best out of developing players. Under Koya’s leadership, Heriot-Watt won the prestigious Queen’s Park Shield for the first time in 16 years, and became known for their stylish passing football. Graduates of Koya’s coaching include Barney Stewart (recently signed by West Bromwich Albion from Falkirk) and Anton Dowds (Ayr United). Closer to home, ‘Gers fans will remember Ali Shrive and Craig Smith, who both played at Shielfield while on loan from Montrose, and were previously at Heriot-Watt.

For supporters, Banji’s appointment represents another clear sign of the club’s ambition. His experience and skill set complements the strong foundations already in place within our excellent coaching setup, adding fresh ideas, energy and a proven track record of player development.

“I’m delighted to be part of Berwick Rangers. I visited Shielfield in preseason a few years ago with Heriot-Watt, so I know how great the set up and support is. I’m looking forward to working with the players and contributing to the club’s progress, and collaborating with Kevin Haynes and the rest of the backroom staff.”

Eagle-eyed fans may have spotted Banji at our public training session on Saturday, and we are really pleased that we’ll be seeing plenty more of him in preseason and beyond! Banji can now be sponsored on the club webstore, and I am sure that all fans will join us in extending a very warm welcome to him as he joins Berwick Rangers!
