Berwick Rangers Monthly Preview (April 2026)

The 2025/26 season heads into its home stretch as Berwick face five massive games to see if they can record a top half finish in the Lowland League.

Kevin Haynes’ side enjoyed a strong March, picking up 10 points from their five games and moving up to 10th place in the table.

April sees the final five league games including a massive midweek game at MKM Shielfield Park that could have a bearing on the title race.

All kick offs 3pm unless otherwise stated.

Wednesday April 1st – Cumbernauld Colts (H, 7:45pm)

April begins with a final league visit for the time being from a Cumbernauld Colts side who have proven this season that they are no joke.

John Doyle’s side recently won the Lowland League Cup in dramatic fashion and have had a strong 2026 in league action, winning 5 of their 9 league games including an impressive victory at title chasing Clydebank in January. They have been inspired by forward Josh Jack, who has 12 goals and 10 assists to his name in the Lowland League this season.

It was Jack who was at the heart of Cumbernauld’s win over Berwick at Broadwood back in mid-August with a goal and assist as Colts went in at half time 3-0 up in arguably Berwick’s poorest performance of the season. Second half goals from Liam Buchanan and Greg Binnie threatened a comeback but it wouldn’t be enough in a 3-2 defeat. Colts last visit to MKM Shielfield was just over a year ago, when Jamie Watson’s header secured a precious three points for Berwick.

Tickets will be priced at £10 for adults, £5 for concessions with U16s going free.

Saturday April 4th – University of Stirling (H)

MKM Shielfield plays host to another big fixture as University of Stirling make the trip south over the Easter weekend.

Chris Geddes’ students may not be as potent as the side that finished fourth in the Lowland League three seasons ago but Stirling have scored the most goals of all sides in the bottom half of the table (54). That has been aided by the impressive Finn Moffett who has bagged 15 in the Lowland League.

Three of those came against Berwick back in November on a deeply frustrating afternoon for the ‘Gers. Greg Binnie’s brace had given Kevin Haynes’ side two leads but defensive calamities led to a humbling 5-2 defeat. Uni’s last trip to Shielfield Park was even more humbling for Berwick as they strolled to a 7-0 victory – Moffett bagging two that evening.

Tickets will be priced at £10 for adults, £5 for concessions with U16s going free.

Tuesday April 7th – Tranent (H, 7:45pm)

The poor weather of January and February continues to catch up with Berwick as they face another midweek game, this time hosting Tranent.

Robbie Horn’s side have hauled themselves right into the middle of the Lowland League title race thanks to a wonderful 2026, going unbeaten in the league with 8 wins from 10 to leave them two points off the top with a game in hand at the time of writing. Their success has been built on the meanest defence in the league, conceding less than a goal a game.

Goals have been more difficult to come by with the 0-0 draw at Foresters Park with Berwick highlighting Tranent’s lack of end product at times which has seen them draw 6 games – only 4 teams have drawn more. The visitors will be buoyed at ending a rotten run of form at Shielfield last March, with Ben McCrystal’s late goal not enough to spark a comeback in a 2-1 defeat for Berwick.

Tickets will be priced at £10 for adults, £5 for concessions with U16s going free.

Saturday April 11th – Gretna (A)

The final away day of the season sees Berwick head to the west end of the border to face Gretna at Raydale Park.

Vinny Parker’s Gretna have continued to punch above their weight somewhat in 2025/26, sitting 15th but with some big scalps along the way. Strikers Sean McKenzie and Iain Anderson have combined for 23 league goals, helping Gretna to a league double over Bonnyrigg Rose and draws with Caledonian Braves, Tranent and Broxburn.

The meeting at Shielfield Park in late November was dramatic with Gretna leading 2-0 with 15 minutes to play before Liam Buchanan’s overhead kick and a Taylor Hendry double including the 94th minute winner salvaged a 3-2 victory. Berwick’s last visit to Raydale Park was in October 2024 where they were comprehensively outplayed and beaten 3-0.

Tickets will be priced at £8 for adults, £6 for concessions with U16s going free.

Saturday April 18th – Bo’ness United (H)

The final day of the season sees Bo’ness United make the trip down the A1 to MKM Shielfield.

Bo’ness have seen their season somewhat peter out after a promising start with Stuart Hunter’s side going winless in their 7 at the time of writing, collecting just three points. At the turn of the month, they sit just four points above Berwick with the ‘Gers holding two games in hand and hopes of catching the BU.

Their position has been bolstered by the brilliant form of Kieran Mitchell who has bagged 20 league goals this season – only Cameron Ross, Lennon Walker (both 24) and Neil McLaughlin (21) have more. He didn’t score, however, against Berwick back in December when goals from Taylor Hendry, Ben McCrystal and Greg Binnie secured a 3-1 victory at Newtown Park. Bo’ness’ last trip to Berwick was back in October 2024 with Keir MacAulay’s goal clinching all three points for the visitors.

Tickets will be priced at £10 for adults, £5 for concessions with U16s going free. Fans are also welcome to join us for our end of season awards presentation in the JB Lounge after full time with live music from Kimberly Brown afterwards.
