Civil Service Strollers 0-1 Berwick Rangers Match Report 17/03/26

Berwick ground out a third consecutive win at a blustery Civil Service Strollers.

Alfie Robinson’s improvised finish from a corner proved to be the difference in a game of few chances at Christie Gillies Park. Berwick opted to play into the wind in the first half but defended resolutely, although they were thankful for Calum Antell’s brilliant reaction stop right on the stroke of half time to deny Civil striker Alieu Faye. That save proved pivotal as Robinson adjusted his body to get a foot to Alex Harris’ deep corner to open the scoring five minutes after the break.

Civil dominated much of the ball but didn’t trouble Antell often as Kevin Haynes praised his players’ ability to “win dirty”.

Positive Signs

On a night that will not live long in the memory, Berwick leave with a pile of positives.  It’s three wins on the spin in the Lowland League, the first time Berwick have done this since the beginning of last season.

Beyond that, it’s the first time since the start of this season that Berwick have kept consecutive clean sheets and it was done at a notoriously difficult ground in tough conditions with a threadbare squad.

As Alfie Robinson noted post-match, perhaps the biggest difference in the side this season is the ability and mentality to dig in and win ugly.
