McConnell is back for next year!

Defender Mark McConnell has committed to Berwick Rangers for the 2026/7 season, in another major boost for manager Kevin Haynes as he builds his squad for the next campaign.

‘Sparky’, who turned 32 earlier this month, has brought the experience of a former Lowland League winner to the side since he joined just over a year ago. The ex-Edinburgh City and Civil Service Strollers player has put in a consistent string of very solid performances at the heart of the ‘Gers defence since getting back into the starting XI in November. Unfortunately, McConnell broke two bones in his hand in a collision on the pitch against Clydebank on 28 February, and after an operation, will likely miss the rest of the 2025/6 season to recover. However, Sparky will be back for next season, adding to a defensive corps which already has Jamie Pyper, Struan Mair and Isaac Deh signed up for the 2026/7 campaign.

‘Gers manager Haynes said, ‘Sparky has shown in his performances and his attitude that he deserves a new deal. He had a bit of time out of the team at the start of the season, but since he has come back in he has put together a lot of good, consistent performances.’

Mark McConnell is sponsored by the Elliot family, and has made 11 appearances this season.
