Harris signs for next season
Another important step in the ‘Gers planning for next season is complete, as the club can confirm that midfielder Alex Harris has agreed to a contract extension for the 2026/7 season.
The talented and experienced 31 year old central midfielder, who made over 40 appearances for Hibernian at the start of his career, has proven his value to the ‘Gers since his return to the side. Harris missed over 15 months with a torn achilles tendon suffered in July 2024, only coming back into the team in September, but put in a man of the match performance in Berwick’s last outing, a 2-1 win over Gala Fairydean Rovers – one of a number of stand-out performances from him already this season. Alex’s quality has been an asset since he joined the ‘Gers back in 2021, and everyone at the club is delighted that he will continue to wear the Black and Gold until at least summer 2027.
‘Gers manager Kevin Haynes was in no doubt that securing the services of Harris for another season was a top priority. ‘He has all the attributes we are looking for in the squad – he is an excellent passer of the ball, and is technically very gifted, as well as having huge amounts of experience.’ Haynes went on to discuss the impact Harris has on the rest of the squad, ‘Alex is a well-liked and hugely respected member of the dressing room, and is great to coach as he understands the game so well.’
Speaking after he put pen to paper, Alex said, ‘I’m pleased to have signed another year and want to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the club for the support through my recovery from injury last season. It’s been great to be back on the pitch in the last few months and I’m hoping I can make up for lost time.’ Harris also spoke about the side’s aims for the rest of the 2025/6 campaign, adding, ‘As a squad I hope we can show some progression in this second half of the season and build something positive going into next year.’
Thanks also goes to Alex’s sponsor, Gavin Marshall, who has supported Alex across a number of seasons. With 94 total appearances for the club, Harris joins the other two most experienced Berwick players – Jamie Pyper and Calum Antell – in committing to the club for the 2026/7 season. Alex and his teammates are next due in action on Saturday, as Tranent travel to MKM Shielfield Park for a 3pm kick off (weather permitting).
