Match Report Gala vs BRFC 25-26

Berwick ended 2025 as they began it with a 2-1 victory over Gala Fairydean Rovers at Netherdale.

Caelan McCrone’s wonderful lofted ball found Michael Barfoot to give Berwick a deserved half time lead.

Jamie Semple pulled Gala level from a well worked corner routine but another glorious pass – this time from Alex Harris – set up Kyle Somers to secure all three points.

Midfield chipping in

“I love midfielders that are going to go and break the lines and we’ve got the quality in the team to pick out the pass”

Kevin Haynes was quick with the praise for his midfield who proved to be the difference against a very game Gala side and deservedly so.

The quality of pass for both goals would not be out of place a few levels above and the runs gave Berwick another dimension in attack which, at times, has been lacking this season.

There’s no doubt the Berwick boss will be hoping for more goals from midfield in the new year.

Expect the unexpected

Berwick have been consistent this season in that you never quite know what you are going to get from them.

This was one of the good days where, as we all know they can be, the team looks like a genuinely competitive Lowland League outfit.

Gala had some opportunities but they were largely held at arms length by Berwick and the control and composure shown across the pitch was outstanding.

This side has the talent but as Kevin Haynes said post match, “they need to believe in themselves”. It might just be as simple as that.
