Albion Rovers vs BRFC Match Report 25-26
A disastrous opening 20 minutes proved to be Berwick’s undoing as they slumped to a 4-1 defeat at Albion Rovers.
Sonny Aluko put the hosts ahead within 21 seconds after Berwick defenders stopped to appeal the ball going out of play.
Things would go from bad to worse when Blair Sneddon was robbed on halfway and Grant Marchand lobbed Liam Campbell from all of 45 yards.
Jamie Pyper’s attempted clearance would then fall to Alfie Lumsden who slotted Albion’s third in the opening 20 minutes.
Michael Barfoot’s free kick six minutes later gave Berwick hope but Albion stood resolute before Tony Garth was given the freedom of the penalty area to fire home with six minutes to go.
Barfoot Impresses On A Bad Day
You’d be lucky to find many in a Berwick shirt who get pass marks but Michael Barfoot was the one who looked most likely to make something happen.
The midfielder has impressed with his range of passing and composure in the middle of the park while his goal was excellent and he was unlucky not to score another free kick which cracked the bar.
Kevin Haynes will be hoping he can stay fit and sharp as he has made a huge difference since arriving from Musselburgh.
Old Habits Haunt Berwick
It was an afternoon of frustration for Berwick as old habits reared their head.
Slack in possession, losing second balls, giving sides head starts – the lack of consistency is something Kevin Haynes called out in midweek and was on full display at Cliftonhill.
With three huge games to start November, Berwick need to start finding some consistency if they are to climb the Lowland League table.
