Clydebank vs BRFC – Match Report 25-26

Ten man Berwick were denied all three points at the death by Clydebank in a classic.

Keir Samson’s diving header had given the hosts the lead just before the half hour mark before Harry Wright’s brilliant brace put Berwick in front at the break.

Neil McLaughlin brought Clydebank back level 90 seconds into the second half before Wright completed his hat trick five minutes from time with a brilliant lob.

Mikey Mbewe was given a soft second booking in stoppage time and the Bankies were able to scramble home an equaliser right at the death.

The Wright Stuff

One of the big changes Kevin Haynes made to the side that lost at Cumbernauld was to move Harry Wright into a central position and it worked a charm.

The Stirling loanee was sharp from the off and revelled in the ability to pick up little pockets of space, giving the Clydebank defence nightmares every time he got on the ball.

His three goals were all brilliant as well, showcasing different facets of his game – the composure to beat his man in the area, the technique to find the bottom corner from the edge of the area and the composure to lob Owen Stott from a tough angle.

Here’s hoping this is the first of many more goals in a Berwick shirt.

Team Excellence

While Wright will take the plaudits for his hat trick – and they are well deserved – it has to be said that Berwick, to a man, were excellent.

Despite conceding three, the defensive work was outstanding with the central partnership of Jamie Pyper and Joe Ellison again showing that it’s arguably one of the best in the Lowland League.

Ben McCrystal looked lively on the right, Greg Binnie ran himself into the ground haranguing Clydebank’s centre halves and Somers and Mackenzie were fantastic again in the middle of the park.

If Berwick can continue to perform like this, more points are sure to come.

Up next

It’s a short turnaround time for Berwick as we head back to MKM Shielfield to take on Hearts B on Tuesday, a 7:45pm kick off.
