Joe Ellison Returns to Shielfield Park on Permanent Deal
Berwick Rangers are pleased to confirm the permanent signing of Joe Ellison following the expiry of his contract with St Johnstone.
The 20-year-old defender rejoins the club following two separate loan spells over the past two seasons. Joe made an immediate impression during his initial stint in 2023/24, making 21 appearances and scoring 1 goal. He returned again last season, although his campaign was unfortunately cut short due to injury.
Now fully recovered, Joe makes the move to Shielfield on a permanent basis and becomes the latest addition to Kevin Haynes’ squad for of the 2025/26 Lowland League campaign, from which the ‘Gers have accrued 4 points in their opening 3 games.
The club is particularly pleased to have secured Joe’s services amid strong interest from several other clubs.
On his signing, Kevin Haynes said, “We’re delighted to bring Joe Ellison to Berwick Rangers. He’s a young, hungry defender with a great attitude and the kind of potential we’re always looking to develop. Joe comes to us from a strong setup at St Johnstone, and we’ve tried all summer to bring him to the club. He had opportunities to remain full time and has played for Stenhousemuir during this season’s League Cup campaign. He is fit and ready to show his composure on the ball and his physical presence at the back.
This move gives him the opportunity to get regular first-team football in a competitive environment, and it gives us added strength and depth in a key area of the pitch. We’re confident he’ll settle quickly into the squad and contribute both on and off the park. We look forward to working with him and helping him take the next step in his development.”
The club welcomes Joe back to Berwick and wishes him every success for the season ahead.
