Frenchman Mathieu Judor played a part in the ‘Gers opener

Berwick Rangers moved off the bottom of the table with their second victory of the season in the SPFL Development League (East). They were worthy winners after dominating the second half at Shielfield.

Matthieu Judor and Blair Henderson were involved in the build-up to Dean Horribine’s 2nd minute opener but Rangers were brought back down to earth a mere five minutes later when Lee Gallagher equalised after a mistake by home keeper Nils Bleakley. The latter’s self confidence was restored by a good save from the dangerous Stan Chitemere not long after James Redpath’s last ditch tackle denied the outstanding Ben Miller the chance to finish a thirty yard run with a shot well inside the visitors’ penalty area.

Berwick pressed strongly ahead of the interval but the teams went in still locked at 1-1. The scoreline changed just five minutes into the new half, Henderson finishing off Horribine’s good work.

It was 3-1 just past the hour when Euan Bauld headed home David Gold’s corner ball. In the 77th minute, Gold was downed inside the penalty area and Henderson put away the spot kick with ease to complete the scoring.

Berwick fielded three debutants, two as trialists. Kayde Reynolds from the amateur ranks, and Robert Wilson, from junior football, played the whole match. Frenchman Loick Mangala, signed and now eligible to play having turned eighteen, replaced fellow countryman Zak Khouiel for the final nineteen minutes.
