Roy McDowell

The club are saddened to hear of the passing at the weekend of former player, captain and club chairman Roy McDowell and passes on sincere condolences to all the family.

Roy, initially from Jedburgh, was a stalwart of the team in the 1970-80 era and played over 350 games in a period 1970/71- 1978/79 and 1979/80-1980-81 having spent a short time in between at Drogheda in Ireland

He won a Championship medal with the Dave Smith team in 1978/79 and was rated as one of the best defenders to wear the club colours.

Roy later spent time as Club Chairman.

Club Secretary Dennis McCleary added, “ Roy’s son Murray who also played for Berwick was recently at Ian Oliver’s funeral and told us his father was not in good health and he notified us over the weekend of Roy ’s passing”.
