Berwick sign Callum Crane on loan
Berwick have completed the emergency loan signing of Hibernian defender Callum Crane – while on-loan centre-back Craig Halkett has returned to Rangers.
Left-back Crane, 19, has joined on an initial loan deal until the end of January, although there is the possibility this can be extended during the transfer window.
In January this year, Crane penned a new deal at Easter Road until the summer of 2018 following a string of impressive performances for the club’s SPFL Development League team, and the Edinburgh-born player is now in his ninth year at the club.
Previously with junior team AC Oxgangs, the left-back is rated by Hibs manager Alan Stubbs, who said upon him and fellow youth player Scott Martin signing their contract extensions: “This is great news – we think very highly of them both and this will be the next step in their development.” Crane’s loan spell at the ‘Gers will be his first at an SPFL club.
Meanwhile, Rangers have recalled defender Halkett at the end of his initial one-month loan. He made his debut in the 4-1 defeat at Montrose – Colin Cameron’s final game in charge – and played in the following games at home to Stirling Albion and Clyde and away to Annan.
