Match Preview : Annan Athletic v Berwick Rangers – Betfred Cup

The long wait is over, the ‘Gers return to competitive action tomorrow night in Betfred Group F as they travel to Galabank to play Annan Athletic with the match starting at 7.45pm.

The perfect tonic for any supporter suffering from post World-Cup blues. Robbie and the boys will be looking to build on the pre-season games to start their League Cup campaign in a positive manner.

Berwick are the only side not to have played yet in Group F, as the competition started at the weekend with wins for Premiership Livingston and the opponents tomorrow, Annan Athletic.

Annan will be looking to build on the impressive, shock victory other Premiership side Hamilton from the weekend. A solitary Aidan Smith strike was enough to seal the 3 points.

Therefore the ‘Gers will need to be at it from the start against a side full of early season confidence.

The two sides, obviously, need no introduction to each other having faced off 5 times over 2 competitions last season. Berwick beat Annan at Shielfield in the Scottish Cup but suffered two home defeats in the league along with two creditable goalless draws away from home.

Supporters are reminded that in the event of another draw this match will be decided by penalties.

Berwick News

Robbie Horn and his squad have just returned from summer holidays and will be looking to get the players available into the swing of competitive action as soon as possible. The travelling support will be hoping to see competitive debuts for Sean Murphy, Jed Davie, Ally Adams, Daryl Healy and youngster Grant Rose.

Annan Athletic News

Peter Murphy will be looking to go top of Group F with another home win against a side who finished one place below his in League Two last season.

The nucleus of his Black & Gold side is much the same with Aidan Smith, Owen Moxton, Alex Mitchell, Scott Roberts, Ryan Sinnamon, James Creaney and two time player of the year, Steven Swinglehurst, all renewing for another year.

New signings David Wilson, Tommy Muir and Chris Johnston could also be in the squad.

Admission

Tickets for this game are £12 for adults and £6 for concessions or students. The under 12 kids free entry policy will not apply to this game.

There are vending and toilet facilities in the away fans area. All visiting fans are welcome in the clubhouse.

Officials

Duncan Williams is the ref for this one with Brian Templeton and Keiran Trayner on the lines.

We wish all our supporters making the journey a safe trip. We hope this is the start of a successful season for Robbie and the boys.

Come on the ‘Gers!
